As a professor and social activist, Elizabeth Feniak strived to better the lives of families, women and Aboriginals.
Now retired, Feniak for many years taught foods and nutrition in the Faculty of Home Economics (now Human Ecology) at the University of Manitoba. She presided over the Canadian Home Economics Association and from 1985 to 2003 served as chair of the Canadian Home Economics Foundation, where she is now Honourary Chair and Trustee Emeritus. The foundation sponsors a writing award in her name.
Feniak also headed several women’s groups in Manitoba. As a result, she is a life member of the National Council of Women of Canada, Manitoba Provincial Council of Women, and Manitoba Women’s Institute. She is also a Member of the Order of Canada.
